Meers is famous for one thing and that is, you guessed it, the Meers burger. It’s not fancy so if you’re looking for a gourmet meal, this ain’t it. If you think you will be getting any sort of upscale or even moderate dining experience, your expectations are misplaced. The Meers Store and Restaurant is wildly instagrammable yet barely dignified all in one stroke.
Its rustic vibe is authentic, not the kind that is manufactured in a city establishment to make white collar folk feel cool about themselves. No. Here, you will stand in line for an hour (or more) to sit at an old table in a rickety old chair just to consume an oversize, cholesterol-ridden burger off a paper plate. Did I mention that you will casually watch the live version of your lunch graze in the pasture while you wait outside?
So, if you won’t get a gourmet burger and you won’t be getting some elevated dining experience, what do you get? Well, what you get when you visit this kitschy little burger joint in its namesake town, is a mouth-watering, longhorn beef burger the size of the paper plate it’s served on and, with any luck, you’ll have room leftover for dessert. My best advice? Adjust your expectations about what a dining experience should be like and just have a good time, enjoy the quirks, meet new people, and eat your heart out.

Ordering a Meers Burger: Seismic or Bust
There are two burger sizes to choose from – the Meersburger and the Seismic Meersburger. One is massive (see above) and the other is, well, seismic. You can add cheese to either and opt out of any of the veggies.
The Seismic Meersburger is enticing. It is legendary. Most of all, it is not for the faint of heart. The Seismic burger is a stunningly large, full pound patty on a bun with all the trimmings that is typically served in a pie pan. If you are ambitious, hungry, and love a good burger, this is what you order. It is the King of Burgers, at least in Oklahoma.
If you’re smart, and I most certainly was not, you will order the Seismic Meersburger to share instead of individual burgers. Theoretically you could split one burger between four people, share a few sides, and leave just as satisfied. Even better, you’ll save a fair amount of cash doing it this way. Of course, that robs you of any bragging rights for having eaten a pie-sized burger all on your own. Tough choices.

Be Prepared for the Tab
After gobbling down whatever obscene amount of food you choose to order, it’s time to pay the equally obscene tab. This moment will probably catch you by surprise even if you did pay attention to the menu prices. I took 3 kids up to the area on a day trip to Medicine Park and the surrounding area. Our lunch at the Meers Store and Restaurant was (roughly) a whopping $75 for four meers burgers, two sides to share and four (not-refillable) drinks.
The other thing that might catch you off guard is that it is a cash only establishment. Fortunately, I had brought extra cash. If you only have a card, no worries. An atm is conveniently located just outside the dining area. You also might want to keep in mind that they don’t let you split the check and, if you have a large party, they might automatically add gratuity.
Is a Meers Burger Worth the Trip?
Depending on where you live in Oklahoma, I’m not sure it would be worth the drive to Meers solely to eat a burger. That said, there are plenty of things to do in the Medicine Park area that totally make it worth the trip. Visiting the Meers Store and Restaurant for a burger is a great way to refuel after a morning of hiking in the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge or up to the “summit” of Mount Scott. After lunch, you can finish exploring the area before heading home or spending the night in Medicine Park.
